Backend API, Database & Cloud Integration
Resilient Node.js and Next.js REST APIs, MongoDB schema engineering, session security, and third-party cloud integrations.
A reliable frontend depends on a well-structured backend. I design and implement secure REST APIs, Mongoose data models, cookie-based authentication systems, serverless rate limiters, transactional email workflows, and signed media pipelines.
Who This Service Is For
- Frontend-heavy teams that need clean, well-validated backend APIs and MongoDB database architecture.
- Existing web applications experiencing security gaps, unvalidated inputs, or slow database queries.
- Products integrating third-party services such as Cloudinary media storage, Upstash Redis, Nodemailer SMTP, or Gemini AI routes.
Problems Addressed
- Unprotected API routes missing origin checks, rate limiting, or payload size validation.
- Poorly structured MongoDB collections without proper indexes, causing slow queries as data grows.
- Exposing sensitive API keys (such as AI keys or Cloudinary secrets) to the browser instead of keeping them on the server.
- Fragile authentication flows that store plain-text tokens or lack account restriction/revocation controls.
What You Receive (Deliverables)
Development Process
API Contract & Schema Design
We define request/response payloads, status codes, validation constraints, and MongoDB indexes.
Security & Rate-Limit Layer
I implement origin checks, payload byte limits, authentication guards, and IP-based sliding-window rate limits.
Database & External Service Integration
I connect Mongoose queries, transactional email dispatchers, and signed cloud upload endpoints with graceful error handling.
Edge-Case & Failure Mode Verification
APIs are tested against invalid payloads, unauthorized requests, and third-party service timeouts.
Relevant Projects & Case Studies
Vaiya Enterprise E-commerce Backend & CMS APIs
Server-verified catalog pricing, role-based admin APIs, signed Cloudinary upload endpoints, and MongoDB session management.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you protect APIs deployed on serverless platforms like Vercel?
Because in-memory Maps reset across serverless cold starts, I use Upstash Redis sliding-window rate limiters alongside origin header checks, content-length limits, and strict schema validation.
How are user passwords and session tokens stored in MongoDB?
Passwords are hashed with `bcryptjs` (cost factor 12) and never returned in queries. Session tokens are generated with `crypto.randomBytes`, stored in `HTTP-only` cookies, and saved in MongoDB only as SHA-256 hashes.
Can you integrate AI capabilities safely into our backend?
Yes. AI keys (like `GEMINI_API_KEY`) are kept strictly in server-only route handlers with rate limiting, input length caps, and structured prompt boundaries so secrets are never exposed to the client.
